The Indiana Journalism Hall of Fame induction Ceremony and the Keating Competition Awards will share one stage this October.
About this Event

The luncheon brings together Indiana Journalism Hall of Fame inductees and Keating Competition winners in a single afternoon program that moves between generations and across media.

Inductees’ work represents decades across the spectrum of media, including print, broadcast and digital journalism. They’ll share the spotlight with student journalists from Indiana colleges and universities recognized for their outstanding reporting, photography and multimedia storytelling.

More about the Indiana Journalism Hall of Fame

The Indiana Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists established the Indiana Journalism Hall of Fame in 1966 at DePauw University in Greencastle to recognize those individuals who have deep connections to Indiana as a result of their personal backgrounds, including their upbringings, and/or their careers, and who have demonstrated over the years they are journalists of the highest distinction; that their dedication to journalism has enhanced the regard others have for the profession; that their work has been of outstanding public service; and that their contributions to journalism have had a significant impact on the social, cultural, political and economic life of their communities.

More about the Indianapolis Press Club Foundation and the Keating Competition

The Indianapolis Press Club Foundation is dedicated to raising and managing funds to provide scholarships, journalism awards and paid summer fellowships for deserving journalism students at Indiana colleges and universities. IPCF established this annual contest in 1986 as a tribute to former Indianapolis Star columnist Thomas R. Keating. The competition celebrates great storytelling across multiple genres. Students are encouraged to submit their best published piece of journalism – news, features, sports or columns – to be considered for 10 spots in the competition.

Five legendary journalists will be inducted into the Indiana Journalism Hall of Fame Oct. 3 in a special ceremony in downtown Indianapolis.

Among them are reporters who doggedly pursued truth and justice, publishers who prevailed in harsh times and innovators who paved journalism’s path forward.

“The board is proud to recognize a quintet of journalism stars with this year’s class of inductees,” said Steve Key, IJHF board president. “It was difficult to select this 59th class of inductees from the stellar nominees we received this year.”
