7:00–8:00 PM: Private gathering reserved for workers and mourning families.**
In honour of these workers, we're also inviting members of the public who are able to bring a gift donation for our Angel Trees and we will have a table set up to help us wrap some of these gifts during the vigil. We're looking for gifts for children of all ages and interests, as well as gifts for women, such as books, hygiene products, and self-care items.
We will spend some time wrapping these gifts in honour of the angels we've lost, helping carry their memory forward through acts of care for the people and families in our community.
We will also have resources out, a few short speeches, and some books available (for purchase or to borrow from our library) such as Modern Whore or Revolting Prostitutes: The Fight For Sex Worker's Rights. We hope to create space for discussion challenging the stigma surrounding sex work.
We welcome everyone to join us in remembering those we've lost.
If you'd like to honor a worker at this vigil (IMPORTANT):
To protect the privacy of those we've lost, the public portion of the vigil will only display photos of workers who were publicly open about their involvement in sex work, or whose families/loved ones have given permission.
If you'd like us to honour someone, please send us their photo over email ([email protected]), a short bio, their preferred name, your relationship to them, and let us know whether you'd like their photo displayed during the private portion only or during the public portion as well.
We'll follow up to verify details and permissions as needed. We want to honour those we've lost while respecting their privacy and the wishes of those who loved them.
RSVP: Given the very real violence and hatred directed toward sex workers, we take attendee safety seriously, especially for such a serious event.
Members of the public must RSVP to our email (use subject line December 17th RSVP) using their full name as it appears on government-issued ID. This will be checked before entry. (If you don't have ID or this requirement presents a barrier for any compassionate reasons, please reach out and we'll arrange an alternative verification method).
Verified workers can simply confirm their attendance through our Discord, or email us to become verified.
These measures help us maintain a safe space for everyone.
