Join the Human Rights Alliance for a special afternoon with author Richard Brethour-Bell, who will discuss his debut memoir, In the Truth.Raised in South Central Los Angeles, Richard turned to religion as a teenager and became a Jehovah’s Witness at 17. Twenty years later, he was disfellowshipped from the congregation because of his homosexuality. His memoir chronicles his deeply personal journey of reclaiming his identity as a Black queer man and finding the courage to embrace an authentic life, even when that meant leaving behind the faith community that had shaped much of his world.
Through his writing and personal experiences, Richard explores the complex intersections of faith, identity, belonging, and survival. Today, he is an author, speaker, and ICF-certified life coach who uses his story to encourage conversations about self-acceptance, healing, and finding freedom beyond the boundaries of high-control institutions.
This discussion offers an opportunity to hear Richard's story, explore the themes of In the Truth, and join a thoughtful conversation about identity, faith, and the journey toward living authentically.
🎟️ Free to attend. Space is limited, so you must register in advance.
