About this Event
The In Rooms Foundation is pleased to announce its first In Rooms Salon, featuring founder and artist Brittany Markert in conversation with writer and Jean Cocteau scholar Chloë Cassens. The two will discuss the importance of art-making, Surrealism, and forging one’s own path in their respective fields.
Set within a historic French Quarter apartment, this intimate gathering will explore the intersections of art, literature, and culture, with Markert and Cassens reflecting on their various roles in the arts, building creative communities, and sustaining independent artistic practices. Drawing connections between Cassens’s scholarship and literary work and Markert’s interdisciplinary practice and the In Rooms Foundation, the conversation will consider how artists can create on their own terms and find inspiration across disciplines.
Emerging from Markert’s long-term interdisciplinary work, In Rooms Foundation builds ecosystems that preserve artists and create the conditions necessary for meaningful creative work to survive, deepen, and be shared. Rooted in photography, darkroom practice, writing, psychology, symbolism, and the transformative power of intimate spaces, In Rooms Foundation offers workshops, salons, artist gatherings, office hours, archival initiatives, publications, scholarship opportunities, and creative development programs that encourage slowness, vulnerability, craft, curiosity, and sustained artistic inquiry.
