The Symbolist Folk Music of In Gowan Ring channels stories of stones and angels through homemade instruments and human voice. The music of In Gowan Ring represents a unique synthesis of folk, mediaeval, and psychedelic elements, where uncanny harmonies unearth a visionary sonic tapestry that engages with mythic landscapes to weave together the transcendental and the mundane. Led by the hermit bard B'ee, with a revolving cast of compatriots and fellow travellers, In Gowan Ring has released over a dozen albums of recorded work and has performed in over 30 countries worldwide.Besides classic psychedelic folk influences (Incredible String Band, Pentangle, Nick Drake) InGowan Ring naturally blends elements of Early Music (mediaeval & Renaissance), Troubadour & Minnesinger song forms, mystic poetry (e.g., Hafiz, Rumi, W.B.Yates), and Spiritual Minimalist Music.
In Gowan Ring release their latest single, "The Wondrous Stubborn Lyre". Hailed as "the most impressive In Gowan Ring piece of recent times," it is based on ‘The Taming of the Harp,’ a Taoist folk tale as related in The Book of Tea by Kakuzo Okakura.
In 2024, Adaya & Ursula Suchanek found themselves being hired for a nostalgic wooden carousel. Of course, that always happens to folk musicians, and that‘s how this project all started. Atmospheric and dark, the songs delve deep into the hearts of the listeners with personal lyrics, featuring Adaya's main vocals accompanied by banjo and guitar, as well as Ursula on the quinton (a five-stringed fiddle) providing harmony vocals. Newly arranged folk songs and poems set to music captivate the audience. Musically, they evoke the likes of Martin Simpson, Karen Dalton, Townes Van Zandt, and 70s heroes like Steeleye Span & Fairport Convention. However, they find it very difficult to be pigeonholed.
The songs are inspired by old music, reinterpreted as original compositions, and thus have a timeless quality.
