Leading improv with movement.
About this Event

Improv is fun when we use our bodies to create mischief.

Improv draws us in when we get to follow the fun wherever it takes us.

What's in store?

In this Improv Playtime session, we will explore the joys of starting scenes with movement and bring attention to our bodies while in the middle of scenes improvising with other.

We will explore the way we uniquely move and why that makes us fabulous. We will rediscover how movement can slow us down and make us truly present in scenes.

Who is this session for?

This is for the experienced and the newbie alike. It is preferable that you have done some improv before but not necessarily Longform.

Beginners: If you are new to longform improv, we will take care of you and make you look fabulous! That's just what improvisers do.

What is longform improv anyway?

Longform improv is where we start with one simple suggestion and then go on an improv adventure to see where it takes us.

In shortform improv, you might play a game with a clear rule, then finish it and move on to something completely different.

In longform, we stay in the same world for longer, though not necessarily in the same place or with the same characters. We enjoy seeing how each scene, or series of scenes, can inspire the next, following whatever feels fun, surprising or makes us curious.

Do I need to be an athelete to attend?

No way! Our venue sadly does not have step free access, so you do need to be able to negotiate stairs. Beyond that this session is open to all.

This is Open Space

Feel free to move in and out of the space freely and look after your needs and accomodation when necessary.

Do I need to be clever, fast and funny?

Not at all! The magic of improv is in showing up as you are and seeing what happens when anything is possible.

You, just as you are, is everything we need.

What will you take away from the session?

Come and enjoy a delightful improv playtime session on a Sunday afternoon.

Leave with that wonderful feeling of freedom and connection. Start your week knowing anything is possible.

And at the end of the session, why not stick around for Brighton's top alt comedy night Extra Topping. 🥳

Who will lead the session?

This Improv Playtime session is facilitated by Simon Topping, character comedian, stand up and improv comedy veteran. He has trained with the best improvisers in the UK including The Maydays, Dylan Emery from Showstoppers, Rob Broderick and Cariad Lloyd.

He founded Brighton Improv Club in 2022; bi-monthly long form shenanigans enjoyed by improvisers who have a little bit of improv experience already under their belts. www.brightonimprov.com
