IMPRO Amsterdam is one of the world's largest improvised theatre festivals. This year for our 30th anniversary we've got 30 shows from top international performers that demonstrate that impro (also called improv) isn't just funny - it can be so much more.
IMPRO Amsterdam Night 2: IMPRO is... Storytelling.
On our second night we're featuring three very different performances that all celebrate the different ways stories can be structured using improv. One ticket (€25 or €250 with Stadspas) gets you access to the two mainstage shows and for €3 extra you can come to our late-night special!

Storytelling doesn’t have to be linear. Using their brains their bodies their connection and a technological twist veteran improvisers and theatrical clowns Kristen Schier and Nick Gillette explore our bizarre shared human condition in the style of contemporary absurdist theatre. It’s visceral existential and sticks with you just like your dreams.
- 21:15-22:15 - Whispering Fjords: An Improvised Nordic "Spel" (Directed by Marius Opheim Thomassen Norway)

Some modes of storytelling are ancient. Whispering Fjords is set between the years 1000 to 1900 among the fjords mountains churches and castles of Scandinavia. It is a funny absurd twist on the classic Nordic outdoor ‘spel’ (play) with heightened characters (and lots of extras!) that nonetheless touches on real topics like class industrialization ambition love and power. Expect big laughs big characters and big stories.

For millennia people have shared fables around campfires told tall tales woven myths into legends and cast shadows of it all on cave walls. There’s even a story about it. The Allegory of the Cave is an exciting new improvised show that combines traditional improv with puppetry and shadow theatre weaving together elements of mythology folklore and more. Featuring big ideas big characters and even bigger adventures.
No age restriction. Venue is wheelchair accessible. Doors open 30 minutes prior to performance. The venue does not have dedicated parking however local street parking is free. Be advised that the streets are very very narrow.
