Visualisation Lab (Vis Lab)

Vis Lab will host a curated programme of live projects and immersive screenings bringing together experimental works that explore perception, speculative futures, and ecological and sensory experiences.

Stage Space will host live performances and immersive presentations exploring sound, spatial research, and experimental storytelling through sensory experience.

Gorvy Lecture Theatre programme presents a curated series of moving-image works and expanded cinema practices exploring posthuman futures, eco-technological imaginaries, sound, mediated performance, and speculative environments.

Sminar room will hold a small programme of workshops offering hands-on sessions exploring inclusivity in multisensory design, immersive ecological heritage practices, and polyphonic approaches to storytelling for social and environmental justice.

◼️ About The Symposium

Immersive Acts: Disrupting the Frame by Otherwise Narratives invites contributions that investigate how diverse perspectives and intelligences can be combined with immersive experiences to positively reframe responses to planetary and societal concerns.

Welcoming transdisciplinary and pluralistic forms of enquiry, the symposium will explore how immersive methods, technologies and engagements can be used to address urgent contexts and support equitable and sustainable engagement through creative and critical practice. Contributions that foreground accessible, collective and radically inclusive approaches are particularly encouraged, with an emphasis on those that otherwise query the conceptualisation, perception, terms, modes and impact of immersive experiences.

The event is organised by the a practice-led research initiative at the Royal College of Art across the School of Communication and the School of Design, that aims to foster transdisciplinary dialogue, practice-led experimentation, and shared learning around immersive environments and the emerging research methods, tools, and discourses that do not simply represent the world but actively participate in reshaping it.
