Join Imago Foundation for the Arts as it welcomes the Mark Russell Trio at 4 p.m. Sunday, November 11 at Imago Gallery, 36 Market Street. Doors open at 3:30pm.
Mark Russell is a violinist, composer, and teacher who studied violin at the Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne, Australia. Proficient in jazz, blues and traditional music from Ireland and Australia, Mark has performed as opening act for Dire Straits’ Brothers in Arms tour and with Brownie McGee and the Billboard R&B charting Phat Cat Players. Inspired by French legend Stephane Grappelli, he moved to Paris, where he performed in jazz clubs and bars. Mark has performed at The House of Blues in New Orleans and in Chicago, the Capitol Jazz festival in Washington D.C., and on The Tom Joyner Fantastic Voyage.
Jon Burr is a bassist/composer/arranger who has toured and recorded with Buddy Rich, Chet Baker, Stan Getz, Horace Silver, Eartha Kitt and Tony Bennett. He was Stephane Grappelli’s bassist from 1986-1997, including for his recording with Yo Yo Ma. Jon is the proprietor of Arranger For Hire, a company that offers music arranging, composition and production.
John Birt plays guitar, banjo and mandolin who completed his master’s degree in Guitar Performance at The Hartt School and his Bachelor’s at Rhode Island College, during which he performed in master classes with Oscar Ghiglia, Andrew York, Odair Assad, and Scott Tennant. As a soloist, his programs have focused on 16thcentury lute music, J.S. Bach’s solo violin and cello works, and contemporary music. John’s most recent ensemble is the Paper Moon Jazz Band, dedicated to Swing Era, Hot Jazz, and the music of Django Reinhardt.
