Instructor: Alison NorlenThis workshop will focus on editing, re-thinking, and observing compositional options in order to create artworks that are more dynamic and expressive. Participants will bring in 1-3 artworks (finished or in-progress) that they would like to reimagine, as well as reference photos and source materials. The workshop will begin with a short PowerPoint presentation, followed by demonstrations, conversations, and hands-on work, where individuals' own artworks will be re-imagined. Photocopies of the artworks and/or reference images will be made so that multiple iterations can be trialed, without affecting the original artwork, and can serve as preliminary re-construction. Collage will be used, along with tracing and carbon papers, to experiment with different technical options—to consider aspects of depth, colour, and light, and to find the most impactful arrangements. This class is ideal for any artists looking to improve their craft.
Alison Norlen is a visual artist who is known for large-scale drawing and sculpture installation, she is also a former professor of visual arts having worked in both Manitoba and Saskatchewan.
