Imaginari Studio is a three-session series for teens, with each session focusing on one specific medium, providing a more in-depth, technique-focused experience. Students will not only hone their maker skills, but will also be encouraged to find their own unique voice and style within the medium. Each session will host different artists offering varied perspectives on the making process.
Studio: Printmaking
Carve out some time to see what happens when you roll, press, and pull your way into a whole new medium.
Students will learn how monotype and relief techniques work. We will look at printmakers across traditions who shaped the medium: the Japanese ukiyo-e and sosaku-hanga masters, the Inuit printmakers of Kinngait, and the Mexican and Chicano printmakers who all used the medium to tell stories, honor ancestors, and speak truth. We’ll also look at contemporary Indigenous and Latino printmakers carrying those traditions forward. At the end of the session, students will have created a series of prints on paper and fabric that highlight their own style.
