ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Yochi Y. Avin is a multidisciplinary visual artist based in South Florida. Born in Poland and raised in Israel, she studied fine arts in both Israel and Italy, earning her BFA from the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera in Milan.

Avin’s artistic practice spans painting, drawing, fiber-based processes, photography, installation, and most recently, performance and theater. Working at the intersection of material, memory, and identity, she explores the ways personal and collective histories are layered, preserved, and reshaped over time. Through tactile engagement with worn photographs, sheer fabrics, reflective surfaces, and thread—often juxtaposed with industrial or weathered materials such as aluminum—she creates poetic compositions that evoke the fragility and persistence of memory. Her work often incorporates faded or archival imagery, recontextualized through stitching, image transfer, or layering—techniques that echo how memory is reassembled, fragmented, or inherited across generations.

She has been awarded the Broward Innovation Grant 2024 for her project, "Painting Life in Pictures," a collaboration and interdisciplinary exploration of visual art and theater, marking the next step in her artistic evolution. The project received significant recognition, and was featured on NBC6 Live, following three solo exhibitions supported by the Broward County Cultural Division and the Community Foundation of Broward in 2020, 2021, and 2022.

Her work has been featured in numerous exhibitions across the United States, including theWausau Museum of Contemporary Art (Wisconsin), the Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club and Salmagundi Art Club (New York), the Lore Degenstein Gallery (Pennsylvania), and B.J. SpokeGallery (New York). In Florida, her exhibitions include the Coral Springs Museum of Art, TheFrank Gallery (Pembroke Pines), Arts Warehouse (Delray Beach), MIFA Gallery (Miami), and theJCC Museum (Boca Raton), among others.
