Description: Ikigai is a Japanese cultural concept that supports individuals to identify meaning in their daily lives and to bring those sources to the forefront of living. It is often used for adults going through a transition, e.g., retirement from work is the primary usage in Japan. In the western world, it has often been used to find "purpose" and "mission." If you've seen the Ikigai Venn Diagram, then you have a broad view of Ikigai. But Ikigai is more than this western 'tool.' It is a way of being in the world with intention, joy, and authentic engagement in your chosen occupations.
But what if we could support teens in setting a pathway forward now through middle and high schools that supported meaningful engagement in their "why". Through this workshop, the teens will work to uncover meaningful sources of joy and enjoyment, work to align them with their academic requirements, and then set a goal or two, to support what they want to do, who they want to be, and how they can become what they envision for their near future. A person's Ikigai often changes and shifts during the shifts over the life span.
