About this Event
Tsismosas Collective presents Ihalas: We Were Never Meant To Be Tamed, a group exhibit and celebration featuring 9 Filipina artists from the NYC tristate area.
Visual artists include: Rhianon Cha-os, Leslie Espinosa, Jana Stuntz, Clarydia Abad Pangilinan, Kenisha Rullan, Loisse Ledres and the Tsismosas founders: Cassandra Balbas, Alitha Alford, and Andrea Miralles
As a Filipina artist run collective, Tsismosas curates and produces a yearly art show in October for Filipino American History Month centering Filipinx artists. The event isn't your typical art show. It is a multi-day celebration of heritage, community, creativity, and healing through the arts.
With a new theme each year based on one of the Philippines' 180 native languages, the Tsismosas art show powerfully blends cultural reverence with modern entertainment and artistry. This year's theme IHALAS is a Cebuano word meaning "wild, untamed, savage, wilderness" and the show centers maximalist sensibilities in contemporary art.
This year's exhibit will take place at The Makers’ Ensemble 281 N. 7th St. Brooklyn, NY 11211 from Oct 1-4.
The Opening Reception will feature original artworks and merchandise, catered Filipino food, a collaborative community art piece, beer and wine, a DJ, and more!
A portion of proceeds from the show will be donated to Waves for Water Philippines, an NGO committed to providing safe drinking water for everyone that has implemented 155 clean water programs in 48 countries to date.
Opening reception tickets include:
First access to the gallery, live DJ, light alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, and Filipino food catered by Augelyn Francisco, founder of Binondo and Kabisera.
