About this Event
Join iCAN and Miller for our ESEA Autumn Festival 2026, held during Mid-Autumn Festival, for a practical conversation on culture, identity, stereotypes, trends and the workplace.
ESEA (East and Southeast Asian) culture is increasingly visible across food, fashion, entertainment, wellness and social media. From K-pop and skincare to food trends and conversations around “Asian maxing”, East and Southeast Asian culture is having a growing influence on mainstream life.
But greater visibility of ESEA culture does not always mean greater understanding of ESEA people.
This event will explore how culture, identity and stereotypes can shape workplace experiences, leadership and career progression, and where the line sits between cultural understanding, harmless assumptions and behaviours that can begin to limit opportunity.
Moderated by Felix Wong from the iCAN ESEA Team, the panel will bring together professionals from different East and Southeast Asian backgrounds to share their experiences and perspectives.
What we’ll explore:
➡️ Common stereotypes affecting ESEA professionals
➡️ When “positive” stereotypes can limit progression
➡️ Communication, confidence and self-promotion at work
➡️ Individual adaptation vs inclusive workplace cultures
➡️ Cultural appreciation vs stereotyping
➡️ What meaningful ESEA inclusion looks like in practice
Following the panel, attendees will take part in facilitated table discussions using real workplace scenarios, giving everyone the opportunity to explore how these issues can show up in practice and what better responses can look like.
