In celebration of Asian American Month, The Patricia Reser Center for the Arts, in collaboration with The Immigrant Story, proudly presents I Am An American Live: Stories of Exclusion and Belonging. This powerful evening honoring identity, resilience, and community is part of the programming by the Oregon Rises Above Hate coalition in honor of Asian American and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month. Join us on Saturday, May 16, 2026, for a production that promises to inspire, connect, and stay with you long after the curtain falls.
As Oregon—and the nation—approach the 250th anniversary of American independence, The Immigrant Story brings four powerful, deeply personal journeys from Vietnam, China, the Philippines, and Burma. Some crossed oceans; others arrived as children, clinging to their parents, unaware of what awaited them. On this night, they step into the spotlight to reflect, to reckon, and to share their truths—inviting us to listen deeply, find common ground, and remember that our shared humanity is stronger than our differences.
The evening culminates in a world premiere performance by Talilo Marfil, 2026 Fields Artist Fellow. Created exclusively for I Am An American Live, this original musical set traces Talilo’s own arduous journey—shaped by the streets of Portland—and the path that led him to become a powerful force uplifting and mentoring the city’s youth.
Now in its fifth year, this acclaimed live production brings the voices of Asian Americans to the stage in a dynamic fusion of storytelling, music, and performance. The result is an evening that moves the heart, challenges assumptions, and reminds us who we are—together.
This free performance is made possible through the generous support of Anne Naito-Campbell. Additional programming support is provided by the Ronald W. Naito, MD Foundation and a grant from the Richard B. Siegel Foundation.
