HYBRID MEETING
Target audience: Families of students with disabilities from 3-21
The IEP meeting is one of the most important opportunities families and students with disabilities have to shape a student’s education and future. Walking in prepared, knowing your rights, and knowing what to ask for can make all the difference.
Join us for an informative hybrid meeting on how to plan for IEP meetings and how to use the IEP as a tool for transition planning. You can attend virtually or in person...but we strongly encourage you to join us in person!
Transition planning begins with the IEP in effect when a student turns 14, but it is never too early to build strong IEPs and plan for life after high school: education, employment, independent living, and community participation. We welcome parents of ALL school-aged children (ages 3-21) to attend our meeting.
In this session, you will learn:
- How to prepare for an IEP meeting before you walk into the room
- How to use the Boggs Center workbooks to organize your thoughts, priorities, and questions ahead of time
- How to build meaningful transition goals and services into the IEP, starting at age 14
- How students can take an active role in their own IEP and transition planning
- What a Facilitated IEP meeting is, when it can help, and how to request one through the New Jersey Department of Education
- How the NJDOE Special Education Ombudsman can support families, answer questions, and help resolve concerns
