SCREENING & ARTIST TALK: Saturday, 21 November 2026, at 15:00–17:00. Location: Black Room, Inter Arts Center
HUNI KUIN LABORATORY was developed between Europe and Amazonia (in Sweden, Portugal, Italy and Brazil), with a deep research on the relationship between art, ritual and consciousness. It connects different spaces, times and perspectives, as an audiovisual poetic way of shamanism.
HUNI KUIN LABORATORY combines archetypal allegories of the collective unconscious, digital technologies, ethnographic research, artistic performance and personal memories. It draws on theoretical references ranging from Amerindian perspectivism to Jungian psychology, but also involves great emotional commitment. The result in practice is a trilogy of videos.
Synopsis of the first video, called TWO
¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨
A shamanic journey is presented in a dreamlike succession of double images that oscillate between reality and fiction. From the darkness, poetic layers of meaning are evoked through different spaces, times, and relationships. An experimental field is established between art as ritual and ritual as art: searching for what matters in the trash, creating enigmatic computer games, connecting to the aesthetics of the Huni Kuin people in the Amazon, dancing in a European museum to re-signify the past, saying goodbye with an emotional party in Lisbon, playing with a child in Sweden, following two ex-lovers on a trip through Italy, or wandering around an artist's studio.
Synopsis of the second video, called THE SPIRIT OF GNOSJÖ
¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨
Between the Amazon rainforest to the south and the Scandinavian forest to the north, a non-linear narrative intertwines Amerindian shamanic perspectives with participatory processes involving inhabitants of the Huni Kuin village of Segredo do Artesão and the Swedish town of Gnosjö. This creates an intimate dialogue between ambiguous beings (man and woman, native and foreigner, person and spirit), addressing utopian desires within a context of pandemic and environmental crisis. The result, presented in split-screen format, reflects on how the Immaterial (through images, sounds, concepts, movements, and dreams) and the Corporeal (through the human body, machines, work, and all that is material) structure and are structured by universal archetypes in constant transformation.
Synopsis of the third video, called THE ARTISAN’S SECRET
¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨
In the window and on the screen, the gaze blends with the video. Capybaras enter the water. Several steps are climbed. Several more are descended. Birthday candles are blown out. People gather around the table while children chase after a small monkey. A key opens a door, after many doors have remained closed. Migratory birds arrive and a man dives into the sea. Other animals appear further South, while in Lisbon museums are occupied with artivism, and in the North, three women moove around a large bonfire, collecting drawn stars. The circle closes with a kitchen-refectory-laboratory-living museum in Segredo do Artesão, the village in Amazonia where the Secret of the Artisan is a labyrinth.
