About this Event
We are delighted to invite the Rev’d Emma Walters to deliver October’s Seminar.
Forgiveness and Justice: can we have both?
Most people, if not all, have an opinion on forgiveness. The idea of forgiveness is embedded into our society, but it is a complex topic and is challenged within our culture on a daily basis. From public figures trying to avoid apologising because of the implication of wrongdoing, to others becoming the latest victim of ‘cancel culture’, our society seems to place huge significance on justice, sometimes at the expense of forgiveness. The idea of unconditional forgiveness, therefore, sits especially uncomfortably into this wider picture. In this seminar we will explore a Christian understanding of unconditional forgiveness alongside a psychological understanding of justice as a key part of forgiveness, and ask the question, can we have both?
