About this Event

Drew Steen is a geomicrobiologist and an Associate Professor of Biological Sciences and Earth Sciences at University of Southern California. He grew up in North Carolina, got his Ph.D. in Marine Science at UNC-Chapel Hill, and worked in Denmark and at the University of Tennessee prior to coming to Los Angeles two years ago.

He's interested in how the microbes that live in the Earth's subsurface - deep within the rocks under our feet and the mud at the bottom of the ocean - manage to stay alive in the face of vanishingly little energy availability.


Doors open at 6:30 pm

Lecture 7-8 pm followed by Q&A


Please arrive early. Walk-in's welcome if room allows. Seating is limited with addtional standing room available.
