When you sign up for this Dynamic Duo of classes, you will be emailed links to watch the Reading Patterns and Cutting Patterns videos at home, and then will come to class for 1 hour of Hands-on practice with your pattern for fitting and Q&A. We know that patterns can be mystifying, and we've got you covered! Plus, you can re-watch the videos as much as you want!
STUDENTS! Please purchase a simple shirt, skirt, or dress pattern from your local thrift store, we will be writing on your pattern to makes notes for future use! You will save this pattern as a template!
I f you are taking one of our MAKE IT SEW series, be sure to purchase the pattern included in the series listing for your skirt, leggings, or tote bag!

How to read and use patterns

There's a wealth of information on just the pattern envelope, let alone the instruction sheet! If it's all greek to you, then you need this class! Learn how to properly buy correct fabric yardage, how to figure out what notions you need, how to read the instructions for right/wrong fabric side, basting, and selvedge, and how to transfer marks from your pattern for maximum accuracy in pattern assembly.
Cutting out your pattern from fabric

How to properly pin, cut, and mark your fabric from a pattern. Sounds easy, right? It is, but avoid the pitfalls of mismatched fabric pieces, crooked or warped pieces, missing pieces, faulty marks and more with this tutorial.
P LEASE WATCH BOTH VIDEOS BEFORE YOU COME TO THE HANDS-ON CLASS! Bring 1-2 yards of washed & Pressed fabric to class for practice...MAKE IT SEW series students will need to purchase, wash, iron, and bring the correct amount of fabric for your project, email if you have questions!

We're working with scissors, pins, needles, hot irons and a machine...is there a chance of injuring myself?
YES!!!! If you are not paying attention or using care, it is possible to stab, cut, poke, burn or maim yourself with some of the items we use in class. HISS STUDIO IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR INJURIES SUSTAINED DURING CLASS. Please be mindful of the tools you are using, and use at your own risk! By purchasing tickets you acknowledge HISS STUDIO, the instructors and staff are NOT RESPONSIBLE for injuries sustained during class. Thanks!

How do I watch the videos?
When you sign up for the series, we'll email you the video links to watch before the in-person class. Be sure to have watched ALL the videos and purchased your materials before the knits and cutting classes. The videos will guide you on how to purchase your fabric, measure yourself, and prepare for the in-person classes.
Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
No, you can also flash your receipt on your smart-thingy when you arrive.
What is the refund policy?
Classes are non-refundable. If you need to miss a class due to a scheduling conflict, please contact the organizer in advance to reschedule. We will do our best to accommodate last minute emergencies, but please be respectful of the instructor's and fellow students and only reschedule when absolutely necessary. No-shows WITHOUT PRIOR CONTACT BEFORE CLASS for rescheduling will NOT BE RESCHEDULED and your ticket will not be repurposed.
Please arrive 5 min early for class, arrivals later than 10 min from the schedule start time will be considered a no-show
In order to be respectful and have a full class session for all, PLEASE arrive 5 minutes early for class. This allows time for setup and settling in so we can start promptly. The building is secured, so your late arrival means disrupting class for others to admit your entry. If you are later than 10 minutes to class, you will be considered a no-show, we will not pause class to unlock the building, and you will need to reschedule your class at your own expense. We have recently had many, many students showing up late to class, and it not only disrupts the class in session, but throws off the entire schedule the rest of the day.

The name on the registration/ticket doesn't match the attendee. Is that okay?
Yes, if you can't make a class or want to buy a class for a friend, that's ok. If you can let us know in advance, that'd be great, if not, make sure you or your friend can reference who bought the ticket so we know it wasn't stolen or hacked.
