This is the first of four sessions of a reading group on basic Marxism, hosted by Solidarity, based on the recently updated pamphlet 'How Marxism Works'.
In today’s age of climate crisis and escalating superpower conflict, and our government backing genocide in Gaza, Marxism is more essential than ever to avert the calamitous future threatened by global capitalism.
'How Marxism Works' is an accessible introduction to the basics of Marxist theory, from understanding history to economic crisis, oppression, the role of the working class, and why we need a revolution to bring about socialism. This revised and expanded Australian edition draws heavily on 'How Marxism Works', by the late British revolutionary Chris Harman (1979), and 'The Case for Socialism', by David Glanz (2021).
To obtain a copy of 'How Marxism Works', message us on 0447 362 417.
This first session will discuss the initial chapters of the booklet:
1. A world of crises
2. Why we need Marxist theory
3. Understanding history
4. Class struggle
This reading group is based in the unceded land of the Kaurna people, now occupied by the city of Adelaide.
Solidarity is a revolutionary socialist organisation, committed to building today's campaigns while we work towards a party that can lead workers to overthrow capitalism completely. For more about us, see our website https://solidarity.net.au, or @solidarityadelaide here on Facebook.
