About this Event
The Global Centre on Healthcare and Urbanisation Public Seminar series brings together members of the public, researchers and practitioners interested and engaged in urban health issues. The principal aim of the series is to provoke debate and constructive action, linking current best practice in urban development with emerging areas of health research.
Can communities prepare for emergencies through voluntary organisations, local and national government preparations, and planning regarding essential infrastructure? This seminar brings speakers together from the public, private and third sectors in order to explore their experiences of how communities in the UK and internationally have responded to emergencies – whether caused by the environment, infectious disease, conflicts, terrorism, accidents or negligence, for example. Speakers and the audience will be asked to draw on their own experiences during discussion: to ask how, and whether communities have been equipped to be resilient in the past, and what roles might public engagement, lifelong learning, and collaborative working have in the present and future?

Chair: Dr Rosemary Cresswell, Fellow, Kellogg College, and Departmental Lecturer in Lifelong Learning (History), University of Oxford.
This in-person event is free and open to all. Refreshments will be served from 17:00.
The seminar will begin at 17:30, followed by a drinks reception at 18:30.
