About this Event
Houston Smith started on drums at three, held the drum chair at his church by six, and picked up alto saxophone at ten. Kansas City Youth Jazz connected him with mentors Bobby Watson, Gerald Dunn, and Chris Burnett; by thirteen, he was performing professionally.
He went on to perform on Good Morning America, take part in the Kauffman Center’s opening festivities, and join the inaugural Grammy Music Revolution Project. At Berklee College of Music, he studied with Terence Blanchard, Walter Beasley, Bill Pierce, and Tia Fuller.
Now a bandleader, sideman, and educator in Kansas City, Smith brings that experience back to the room where the music keeps growing. Catch him at the Blue Room for two Friday-night sets.
The Blue Room, 1600 E 18th St, Kansas City, MO 64108. Friday, September 25, 2026. Shows at 8:30 pm & 10 pm. $10 per show.
