This year’s Housing Justice Summit is a two-day event in Newark, New Jersey hosted by Seton Hall Law School and Rutgers Law School. Attendees may choose to attend one or both days—both are free and open to the public.Friday, October 16, hosted at Seton Hall Law School, will include sessions, panels, and discussions examining, challenging, and reimagining legal rights and protections for tenants in New Jersey. For any attorneys attending, Continuing Legal Education credits will be offered.
Saturday, October 17, hosted at Rutgers Law School in Newark, will be a tenant organizing workshop. This interactive workshop is open to the community and does not have a legal education focus. The workshops are designed to teach skills and tactics to organize tenant associations within buildings and to win local housing justice campaigns. The sessions will be interactive workshops rather than panels and encourage participation.
Although this event is free and open to the public, depending on demand, we may reach a limit for attendance for the Saturday portion so everyone can meaningfully participate in the workshops. Priority will be given to tenants who wish to organize, although everyone, including attorneys, law students, and anyone looking to support tenant organizing, is encouraged to apply. Participants are asked to commit to attending for the full day.
