About this Event
Join us for Home Away From Home, a nostalgic, family-friendly celebration of Black culture, heritage and the shared experiences of growing up in African and Caribbean diaspora households.
Hosted by House of Culture at Mason & Fifth, Westbourne Park, this special Black History Month event is inspired by the sights, sounds, flavours and traditions that made our childhoods so memorable.
From the music playing through the house, to the smell of home-cooked food, family games, hair care routines and the stories passed down through generations, Home Away From Home is about celebrating the little things that connect us to our roots.
What to Expect:
- Nostalgic Food & Flavours: A taste of home with Caribbean and African-inspired dishes that bring back childhood memories.
- Music & Good Vibes: A soundtrack of reggae, dancehall and nostalgic favourites that shaped generations.
- Games & Cultural Experiences: Familiar childhood games, interactive activities and opportunities to share memories.
- Tote bag printing workshop inspired by Culture imagery hosted by Carnival Creates.
- Hair, Identity & Heritage: Conversations and experiences celebrating natural hair, self-expression and cultural identity hosted by Funmi Oriola.
- Brand Community Engangment: Complimentary goodies and product gifting from participating brands, including Curly Ellie and Pip Organic.
- Community & Connection: A welcoming space for families, friends and generations to come together, exchange stories and create new memories.
Whether you grew up in a bustling Caribbean household, an African home filled with tradition, or simply appreciate the richness of our cultures, this is a space to celebrate belonging, identity and togetherness.
More than just an event, Home Away From Home is a reminder that our heritage lives through the music we listen to, the food we share, the stories we tell and the communities we build.
Because home isn't always a place — sometimes it's a feeling.
