SUSAN PASCAL - jazz vibraphonist has taken her music through four tours of Singapore and concerts, workshops and clinics across the United States. Her Pacific Northwest appearances include the Earshot Jazz Festival and Centrum Jazz Port Townsend, and as a special guest artist with the Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra, the Seattle Baroque Orchestra, and Seattle’s Gypsy jazz group, Pearl Django.

Pascal’s eclectic musical interests are reflected in her own projects. Susan Pascal’s SOUL SAUCE quintet is a tribute to Latin jazz icon Cal Tjader, and her new BRAZIL PROJECT band features the rich rhythmic and melodic traditions of Brazil. Her straight-ahead jazz group, the SUSAN PASCAL QUARTET has been nominated twice for Best Acoustic Group by Seattle’s Earshot Jazz.

Pascal is heard on motion picture soundtracks including “The Wedding Planner”, “Office Space”, ”Eulogy” and “Mirror, Mirror” and is a guest artist on recordings by vocalist Greta Matassa, “All This and Heaven Too,” "And to All a Good Night," and "The Smiling Hour"; the Vern Sielert’s Dektet recording, "From There to Here"; slide guitarist Orville Johnson’s “Slide and Joy”; and many others.

"Fluid stick work and coherent, compact solos

BRIAN MONRONEY When a particularly spectacular talent arrives on a scene, it’s usually other musicians who catch on first, and excitedly spread the word amongst themselves in hushed, reverent tones. The last few years, these words have often been about guitarist Brian Monroney.

Drummer and bandleader Tarik Abouzied describes Monroney as “a local treasure,” and calls him “one of those players whose breadth of knowledge and experience is crystal clear the moment you hear him. He’s armed with all the chops anyone could want but has the taste and restraint necessary to contribute to the music wisely.”

Ace pianist Bill Anschell described Monroney as “very humble and focused, trying to make the best musical decision at any given moment; no ego getting in the way. And he’s really well-rounded.”

The Colorado-raised Monroney established himself initially in the Latin music hotbed of Miami and spent many years in and out of LA, logging time with superstars such as Natalie Cole and Gloria Estefan and appearing on television and on numerous film soundtracks.

Whether live or in the studio, Monroney works his supportive magic without undue flash or fanfare, subtly elevating and enriching the music. When called on to solo, he can unleash explosively serpentine lines rich with inner logic and compositional substance. Monroney inhabits the best of both worlds: the work ethic, experience, and taste of a seasoned pro, coupled with the enthusiasm, energy, and joy of a true music lover.

Seattle has reinvigorated his love of live performance. “I’m having a blast,” says Monroney with a smile.

Monroney is adept at and open to a huge range of styles of music, and his longest running gig (over 17 years) was as guitarist/musical director for the global icon Tom Jones. Though pop music often conjures notions of superficiality, professional musicians and astute listeners know that most pro “pop” bands are packed with some of the world’s finest, most versatile musicians, with deep reserves of creativity that can be deftly applied to any genre. - Excerpt from March 2017, Earshot Jazz Profile By Andrew Luthringer

CHRIS SYMER - Born and raised in Southern California, bassist relocated to the Northwest in 2002 where he continues to make his living as a freelance musician. Equally comfortable in the classroom, stage or recording studio, Chris has stayed busy doing everything from teaching to playing on feature films. Notable projects have included recordings with Bill Anschell ("Rumbler" 2017), Johnaye Kendrick ("Here" 2014), James Knapp ("Scrape" 2013), and Nelda Swiggett ("Stringtet" 2014) as well as tours to South America with Anschell (2012, 2014) and Kendrick (2013).
Studies in jazz and classical double bass performance combined with a love for bass guitar have provided Chris with an appreciation of many styles of music and an ability to fit into almost any musical situation. His open minded approach has led him to the somewhat unusual practice of tuning his own double bass in fifths an octave below the cello, he remains fascinated by the tonal palette the tuning provides.
