Sergeant Dan M. Smith

United States Army

Served from 1968 – 1971

US Army MOS of 45G2T: Maintaining weapons and weapon systems. Assigned as an Auxiliary Personnel Carrier (APC) Gunner, M552 Sheridan AR/AAV Light Tank gunner, and eventually vehicle commander of a M113 ACAV (Armored Cavalry Assault Vehicle). Also conducted infantry patrols, demolition and mechanical ambushes.

Significant Decorations Received: Bronze Star and Purple Heart (2)

Dan served in the United States Army from October 24, 1968 to August 23, 1971 at Fort Benning, Fort Knox, Vietnam with H troop 17th Calvary Americal Division, then returning to Fort Benning. Then graduate school.

After serving with the US Army, and after being a regular vacationers in Vail, Dan and Terry retired fulltime to the Valley in 2001 after his 29 year career with Exxon, later Exxon Mobile Corporation. While at Exxon, he held a variety of positions in both the Marketing and Public Affairs Departments. Marketing positions included sales and sales management, as well as financial analysis

While retired, Dan has been a prominent Community Member involved in the Vail Valley withFire/police/EMS and other agencies and Non-Profit Organizations:

SPC4 David Schneider

United States Army

1968 – 1970

David served in the United States Army from 1968 to 1970 and achieved the rank of Specialist 4/E4

With an MOS of 11D20, David was assigned to the Armored Reconnaissance Division conducting missions in Vietnam.

Significant Medals received: Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star, and a Purple Heart.

Each item on the Missing Man Table represents the emotions and feelings reserved for those who did not come home.

The ceremony symbolizes that they are with us, here in spirit. All Americans should never forget the brave men and women who answered our nation's call to serve and fought for our freedom with honor.
