Holistic Wellness Consultations
with Gavin Oppert
Pharmacist | Nutritional Therapist | Iridologist | Homotoxicologist
About My Practice
Holistic Wellness was established with a simple philosophy: to help individuals gain a deeper understanding of their health through comprehensive nutritional assessment and complementary observational techniques. With more than twenty-five years of experience in healthcare, my professional journey began as a pharmacist, providing me with a strong scientific foundation in anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology and conventional medical management. Whilst I greatly value the role of modern medicine, my clinical interests gradually evolved towards understanding why health challenges develop and how nutrition, lifestyle, environment and constitutional factors influence long-term wellbeing. Today, my practice combines pharmaceutical knowledge with nutritional medicine and a range of complementary observational assessments to provide a comprehensive, educational and preventative approach to health. My role is not to diagnose disease or replace conventional medical care, but to help individuals better understand the many factors that influence their overall health while working collaboratively alongside their existing healthcare professionals.
My Philosophy
The philosophy that underpins my practice is that prevention is better than cure. Rather than focusing solely on symptoms, I believe it is important to understand the individual as a whole. Every person possesses unique constitutional strengths alongside areas that may require greater nutritional or lifestyle support throughout life. Genetics provide the blueprint, but nutrition, lifestyle, sleep, stress, environmental exposures, physical activity and medication all influence how those genetic characteristics are expressed. For this reason, every consultation aims to identify the wider influences affecting health rather than searching for a single explanation. Understanding these influences enables practical, personalised recommendations that support long-term wellbeing
Nutrition forms the foundation of every recommendation I make, because every cell within the body depends upon an adequate supply of nutrients to function efficiently. A Comprehensive Integrative Assessment Every consultation begins with a detailed discussion to understand the individual rather than simply their symptoms. This includes a comprehensive review of:
• Presenting concerns • Medical history • Current medication • Nutritional supplements • Dietary habits • Digestive health • Sleep quality • Stress levels • Physical activity • Occupational demands • Family history • Previous investigations • Lifestyle factors • Personal health goals
This information provides the context required before any observational assessments are undertaken. I firmly believe that observations only become meaningful when interpreted alongside an individual's history, lifestyle and overall clinical picture.
My Assessment Framework
1. Nutritional Assessment and Case History
Nutrition forms the cornerstone of every consultation. I evaluate dietary intake, digestion, hydration, meal timing and nutritional status to identify practical opportunities for improving health through evidence-informed dietary and lifestyle strategies.
2. Live Blood Analysis
Live Blood Analysis uses high-resolution phase-contrast microscope to observe fresh capillary blood immediately after collection. A dark field illuminator is used and cellular structural characteristics are highlighted. The assessment provides an educational opportunity to discuss cellular morphology, hydration, oxidative stress, plasma appearance and general lifestyle influences. Clients are able to observe their own blood cells in real time, often providing a powerful visual understanding of how everyday habits may influence health. This assessment is observational and educational and is never used to diagnose disease.
3. Dry Blood Analysis
Following Live Blood Analysis, a second blood sample is allowed to dry naturally before microscopic examination. The resulting blood patterns provide an additional observational perspective that supports discussion surrounding physiological resilience, nutritional demands, recovery, hydration and lifestyle influences. When interpreted alongside the wider consultation, these observations contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of the individual.
4. Iridology
Iridology is a constitutional assessment that examines the unique structure and characteristics of the iris using high-resolution digital photography. Rather than identifying disease, Iridology explores inherited constitutional tendencies, tissue integrity and areas that may benefit from additional nutritional and lifestyle support. Understanding constitutional strengths and vulnerabilities allows recommendations to become increasingly personalised and preventative.
5. Nailfold Capillaroscopy
Nailfold Capillaroscopy is a completely non-invasive assessment that allows direct visualisation of the body's smallest blood vessels using digital microscopy. The assessment provides valuable educational insight into the microcirculation and is recognised internationally within rheumatology as the gold-standard non-invasive technique for examining capillary structure in specific clinical settings. Within my practice it supports discussions regarding circulation, cardiovascular health and the importance of healthy lifestyle habits.
6. Point-of-Care Biomarker Screening
Where clinically appropriate, I also provide rapid point-of-care biomarker screening using validated immunoassay technology.
Available biomarkers include: • HbA1c • C-Reactive Protein (CRP) • Thyroid Function (TSH, Free T3 and Free T4) • Vitamin B12 • Ferritin • PSA • Testosterone • Oestradiol
These objective measurements complement the observational assessments and may assist discussions regarding overall health. Any results outside expected reference ranges are discussed with the client, who is advised to consult their GP for appropriate medical assessment and further investigation.
7. Bringing Everything Together
No single assessment provides a complete understanding of health. Each modality contributes another piece to the overall picture. When these observations are integrated with a detailed consultation, nutritional assessment and lifestyle evaluation, they provide meaningful educational insights that help clients better understand the factors influencing their wellbeing. Following every consultation, clients receive a comprehensive personalised report explaining each observation in clear, understandable language together with practical nutritional, dietary and lifestyle recommendations designed to support long-term health.
8. Working Alongside Healthcare Professionals
Holistic Wellness is designed to complement—not replace—conventional healthcare. I strongly believe that the best outcomes are achieved when complementary practitioners and conventional healthcare professionals work collaboratively. Whenever appropriate, clients are encouraged to share their reports with their GP or other healthcare providers to support integrated, patient-centred care. Where observations indicate that further medical assessment may be beneficial, clients are always advised to seek advice from their GP or relevant healthcare professional.
9. My Commitment
My commitment is to provide every client with professional, personalised and evidenceinformed guidance that empowers them to better understand their health. Through education, nutritional medicine and comprehensive integrative assessment, my aim is to help individuals make informed lifestyle choices that support resilience, healthy ageing and long-term wellbeing. At Holistic Wellness, I believe that understanding our health is one of the greatest investments we can make in our future. Every consultation is an opportunity to educate, empower and support individuals on their journey towards lifelong health.
