About Big Time Jazz Orchestra:
The Big Time Jazz Orchestra calls Duluth, Minnesota home and is composed of the finest big band jazz musicians in the Northland. This 19-piece ensemble includes collegiate and school instrumental music instructors as well as former military band musicians. BTJO is a 501(c)(3) non-profit and has supported the community through performance and education of the uniquely American art form of jazz since 1990.
Annually, the group performs shared concerts and workshops with local schools and university bands as well as raising funds for area non-profits. Several orchestra members are also composers whose compositions have been performed locally and nationally. With the support and generosity of the Arrowhead Arts Council, the band has produced two CDs with original material and jazz standards.
The ensemble regularly programs selections from such jazz masters as Thad Jones, Woody Herman, Toshiko Akiyoshi, Duke Ellington, Jim McNeely, Bob Brookmeyer, Gordon Goodwin, and Maynard Ferguson. Some of the more notable performances for BTJO have been its selection to play for the MN Music Educators Conventions in 1994 and 2001 and for the 50th-anniversary convention of the American School Band Directors Association (ASBDA) in 2002. In March 2017, BTJO was honored to perform a joint concert with the Duluth Superior Symphony.
About Haley Schattschneider:
Haley Schattschneider is a Nashville-based vocalist and music entrepreneur who moved to Music City in 2019 to attend Belmont University. Raised by two musicians (both UMD grads), she grew up in a home that cherished a vast range of music, from the Great American Songbook and works of classical composers to modern heroes like Harry Connick Jr. and Billy Joel. Today, Haley blends traditional and contemporary influences to approach jazz singing in a way that honors the craft while connecting with both lifelong listeners and new audiences. Her recent recordings feature collaborations with acclaimed musicians and arrangers including Sam Levine, Jon Cowherd, Oli Parker, Leif Shires, and Daniel Fiamengo, with ongoing releases in 2026 and beyond.
Her debut album, Over the Moon (released July 18, 2025 via Club44 Records), showcases eight moon-inspired classics—including Fly Me to the Moon (In Other Words), Moon River, and Dancing in the Moonlight—as a nod to her hometown of Wapakoneta, also the boyhood home of Neil Armstrong. Singles from the album reached Top 20, Top 10, and Top 5 on the iTunes Jazz charts and have earned hundreds of thousands of streams worldwide. Working heavily across jazz and gospel genres, Haley has provided studio and live vocals for artists including Stephen Schwartz, Sheryl Crow, Amy Grant, Blessing Offor, and Phil Wickham, and collaborates with clients worldwide as a background vocalist, demo singer, vocal contractor, and arranger.
