About this Event
Creative Writing Workshop: Coming Of Age: Carrianne Leung
When: 1 December 2026
Where: The Collab, 20F, Office Plus , 93-103 Wing Lok Street, Sheung Wan, Hong Kong
Age: 18+
The “coming of age” story is one of the most enduring themes of literature. Consider Charles Dickens’ Oliver Twist, Lucy M. Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables or JD Salinger’s Catcher in the Rye. Think about contemporary novels like Suzanne Collins’ Hunger Games or Angie’s Thomas’ The Hate U Give. Coming of age describes the transition from childhood to young adulthood, a time described by excitement but also filled with heartache, sudden realizations and leaving something behind in order to meet the unknown future. Carrianne Leung will discuss how she describes this critical juncture in the lives of characters in her novels, The Wondrous Woo, That Time I Loved You and Wonderland Road. This workshop will offer craft tips and writing exercises to help students explore this theme in fiction and creative non-fiction and connect with their own “coming of age”.
