About this Event

Book Launch: Join us for the book launch of an exciting new local history publication.

This book peels back the concrete and bitumen of the city to rediscover Gumbramorra. Despite being sold, polluted and drained, Gumbramorra has shaped Marrickville in profound and lasting ways. Still, it returns to irrepressible life.

About The Author: Sue Castrique is a historian and script editor who lives in Marrickville. She is the author of Under the Colony’s Eye: Gentlemen and Convicts on Cockatoo Island (Anchor Books Australia, 2014), which was awarded the Kay Daniels prize by the Australian Historical Association, and One Small World: The History of the Addison Road Community Centre (2017), funded by Inner West Council. She has also worked extensively in historical documentaries for the screen.
