The North Wood County Historical Society is pleased to announce that tickets are now on sale for History Rising from the Grave, a unique local history experience that will be held on Sunday, October 4, 2026, at Marshfield Hillside Cemetery.Designed to preserve and promote local history, this special event will bring the past to life by connecting visitors with the people whose lives, struggles, achievements, and legacies helped build Marshfield and the surrounding region.
The walking tour will feature six first-person portrayals of early Marshfield business and community leaders, presented by present-day community members. Through these engaging performances, visitors will learn about the contributions of downtown Central Avenue merchants and entrepreneurs, as well as individuals who played significant roles in local industry, entertainment, medicine, and civic life.
Participants will experience history through the stories of the men and women whose vision and dedication helped shape the growth and character of Marshfield. The tour is designed to educate, entertain, and foster a deeper appreciation for the community's rich heritage.
Tours will begin every 20 minutes starting at 12:00 noon.
The route is expected to cover approximately two to three city blocks, with most stops located along existing cemetery roadways. Each tour will last about one and one-half hours.
"History Rising from the Grave offers a unique opportunity to connect with Marshfield's past in a meaningful and memorable way," said organizers. "Visitors will meet the individuals whose contributions helped create the community we know today."
Tickets are available now and advance purchase is encouraged, as tour size is limited.
