Where History Meets Happy Hour. . .Join the Marshall University History Department at the Bullock Distillery in Charleston, West Virginia, for our third installment of History on the Rocks!
With December 2 marking the 167th anniversary of John Brown's execution, the timing is perfect for a conversation about his life and legacy. Dr. Chris White will explore "John Brown: Abolitionist, Insurrectionist, and Martyr", examining Brown's antislavery activism, his 1859 raid on Harpers Ferry, and the events that led to his execution in Charles Town, Virginia (now West Virginia).
Let's take a closer look at the man behind the history and discover what John Brown can tell us about America on the eve of its bloodiest war.
No classroom. No exams. Just good history, good conversations, and good cocktails (and mocktails)!
The lecture will begin around 6:30 p.m. and run until approximately 7:30 p.m.
This event is **FREE and open to the public!**
Drinks will be available for purchase, and you are welcome to bring in food to enjoy during the event!
