At noon on Wednesday, October 28, a panel will discuss the re-release of Jackson State University’s first official history book, "Jackson State University: The First Hundred Years, 1877-1977" by Lelia Gaston Rhodes, and how the past continues to shape the present and inform the future as part of the History Is Lunch series. Ashley Norwood, director of digital storytelling at Jackson State University, will moderate a panel featuring Hilliard Lackey, visiting professor of urban higher education at Jackson State University; Angela Stewart, archivist at the Margaret Walker Center; Robert Luckett, director of the Margaret Walker Center; and Gailya Porter, survivor of the 1970 Gibbs-Green shooting on the Jackson State University campus. This free event will take place in the Craig H. Neilsen Auditorium of the Two Mississippi Museums and will stream live on the MDAH Facebook page and YouTube channel. Copies of the book will be available for purchase, and a book signing will follow. For more information, call 601-576-6850 or email [email protected].
