PW Litchfield Heritage Canter Presents "Inside the Nation's Ostrich Experiment Stations," at the Goodyear City Hall Chambers (1900 N Civic Sq, Goodyear, AZ 85395).Arizona once produced the world's best ostrich feathers, making global competitors fiercely jealous. When spies and secret missions threatened to tip the scale, Arizona's first state Representative Carl T. Hayden and President Woodrow Wilson knew they had to do something to protect and further advance on the discoveries. Hear what the U.S. was trying to accomplish with ostriches from 1913 to 1919 when animal scientists still knew next to nothing about the strange bird. Compare the old studies to modern-day scientific breakthroughs available through ostrich research today.
*Please note, audiences will hear about both experiment station successes and failures (including tragic outcomes). The topic is presented with levity and satire and invites audience interaction. Previous audiences report it being "Lively" and "Fascinating."
