In our opinion, the Upper Rogue River Trail sports some of the best fall colors in southern Oregon, which is why we seem to get out to the Upper Rogue River Trail every October. At any rate, prepare to get bedazzled by the colorful array of hues of the autumn spectrum.Driving time: 2 hour, 15 minutes

Route: There are two possible routes, both beginning from the Rogue Gorge overlook. The easier route involves hiking out and back on the east side of the Rogue River to Natural Bridge from the Rogue Gorge overlook. There is little to no elevation gain on this route. The other route has a 300+ foot elevation gain and whether we hike it coming or going will depend on the wishes of the hikers. Basically, the harder route will be a loop hike on the west side of the river.

Pluses: Hiking on this section of the Upper Rogue River Trail is the quintessential autumn hike. The vine maples growing along the river will show off their red, pink, yellow hues along with every color in between. Throw in geologic features associated with a scenic river flowing through lava deposited courtesy of Mount Mazama for good measure. Bring a camera!
Minuses: Can't really think of any other than it's a 2 hour drive to the trailhead. Maybe the bright colors of the leaves in autumn might damage your retinas?

On the day of the hike: Meet at 8 am in the Douglas County Courthouse parking lot off of Fowler St., right behind the library building.
Bring water, lunch, and appropriate clothing for hiking.
If you are riding with somebody, be prepared to share gas expenses with your driver.
Please do not attend if you feel sick, are coughing, or have a fever.
The club hikes every other Saturday, rain or shine. Hiking is free, everybody is welcome.
