The Tioga section of the N.U.T. (North Umpqua Trail) had been decimated by the 2017 North Umpqua Complex Fire, and then again by the 2020 Archie Creek Fire. Since then, it has received some well-needed TLC from extraordinary organizations (NUT Faries, Siskiyou Mtn Club, etc.) who have worked hard on getting our local trails restored! Currently, there are only a few areas on this section that require maneuvering around debris. The Tioga section of the N.U.T. features a birds eye view from Elevation Rock, as well as great views of the North Umpqua River. This is a chance to see a forest in recovery as well as admire all the greenery in areas that were untouched by fire. Driving time: 40 minutes

Hiking route: This will be a one-way shuttle hike beginning at Wright Creek for a difficult 8.5-mile trek to the Susan Creek Day Use Area. For those wanting a shorter hike, Elevation Rock makes an excellent turnaround point for a moderate 5.5-mile hike.
Distance: 8.5 / 5.5 miles
Elevation gain: 1,700 feet / 1,100 feet
Difficulty level: Difficult (8.5 miles) Moderate (5.5 miles)

Pluses: New trail work, flowing streams, a short drive
Minuses: A few scrambles over debris, muddy trail if it rains

On the day of the hike: Meet at 8 am in the Douglas County Courthouse parking lot off of Fowler St., right behind the library building.
Bring water, lunch, and appropriate clothing for hiking.
If you are riding with somebody, be prepared to share gas expenses with your driver.
Please do not attend if you feel sick, are coughing, or have a fever.
The club hikes every other Saturday, rain or shine. Hiking is free, everybody is welcome.
