Description
Two local authors, two books out this fall, one conversation on the stage of the Martin-Lipscomb Theater. Tuesday, September 29, from 5 to 7 p.m. Ann Huckstep, a retired attorney, will lead the discussion. A reception follows in the main lobby. City Lights Bookstore will have both books on hand for purchase and signing.
Diane McPhail lives in Highlands and writes historical fiction. The French Innkeeper's Daughter is her fourth novel, following The Seamstress of New Orleans.
J.Tom Morgan teaches criminal law at Western Carolina University. Before that he spent twelve years as the elected District Attorney of DeKalb County, Georgia. In December 2000, Derwin Brown, the newly elected sheriff of that county, was shot twelve times in his own driveway, days before he was to take office. The case fell to Morgan. Partway through the investigation, he learned his own name was next on the killer's hit list. He prosecuted anyway. The man who ordered the M**der turned out to be the sitting sheriff Brown had just defeated at the polls. A Rainy Night in Georgia (Prometheus / Globe Pequot) is Morgan's first-person account of the case, published September 15.
