Join us for a beautiful 6km walk through the Highbury Aqueduct Reserve, a hidden gem of Adelaide’s north-east. 🌳🥾 THIS IS A GREAT WALK FOR AN INTRODUCTION TO TRAIL WALKING!
If you've mostly walked on footpaths or you're curious about getting out onto nature trails, this is a lovely place to start. The trails are accessible and easy to follow, with a mix of surfaces, gentle changes in terrain and plenty to see along the way. It's a chance to experience trail walking in a relaxed, supportive and social environment — no need to be an experienced hiker!
We’ll wander along shared trails through native bushland, open grassy areas and along the historic aqueduct, with beautiful views towards the hills and connections to the River Torrens Linear Park.
This reserve has a fascinating history dating back to the 1870s, when the aqueduct was developed to carry water from the River Torrens to the Hope Valley Reservoir. Today, the area is a thriving biodiversity corridor and a wonderful place to slow down, connect with nature and enjoy good company.
Keep your eyes open for native birds and wildlife, including yellow-tailed black cockatoos, superb fairy-wrens, kangaroos and, if we're lucky, koalas or echidnas! 🐨🦘
