Hidradenitis Suppurativa Symposium for Medical Students
It is with great enthusiasm that we welcome you to the first Hidradenitis Suppurativa Symposium for Medical Students, hosted by Hidradenitis & Me, a Canadian patient advocacy and support organization.
What is Hidradenitis Suppurativa?
Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic inflammatory skin condition affecting an estimated 1–4% of Canadians, causing recurrent, painful inflammatory lesions that can lead to significant scarring and disfigurement. Despite its prevalence, HS remains frequently underrecognized, with patients facing an average diagnostic delay of approximately 10 years. HS patients interact with clinicians across a wide range of specialties, including family medicine, dermatology, emergency medicine, general surgery, gynecology, urology, plastic surgey and internal medicine, making awareness of this disease valuable no matter which path you pursue in medicine.
Who should attend?
This symposium is intended for all Canadian medical students. No prior knowledge of HS is required.
What to expect
- Expert-led sessions on HS diagnosis and management, living with HS from a patient perspective, barriers to care through a case-based discussion facilitated by patient partners, and emerging advances and artificial intelligence in HS care.
- Breakfast and lunch provided.
- Opportunities to network with dermatology faculty and residents.
- Entry into a raffle for giveaway prizes.
