During the presentation, participants will have the opportunity to walk through a mock teen bedroom and see if they can identify everyday objects that may serve a different purpose than they appear to. Following the interactive activity, facilitators will review the hidden items and discuss what parents and caregivers should know. The presentation will also cover current trends, potential warning signs, strategies for having open and productive conversations with young people, and resources available to families who have questions or concerns.
The goal of “Hidden in Plain Sight” is to increase awareness and provide adults with practical information and tools to support the young people in their lives. The presentation is not intended to encourage parents to search their children’s belongings, but rather to help adults become more informed and confident in recognizing potential concerns and starting meaningful conversations.
The presentation will be facilitated by Deloris Joseph, Youth Advocate, and Rachel Dzialo, Substance Use Program Coordinator, in partnership with the Children’s Advocacy Center of Bristol County. Representatives from the Children’s Advocacy Center will also be available to share additional information and resources for parents, caregivers, and families.
