Deciding whether to save a compromised tooth or replace it is one of the most common, and most difficult, choices in clinical dentistry. In this study club, Dr Hezel Cohen will walk through the evidence, grey areas and judgement calls behind these decisions: assessing prognosis, weighing restorative, endodontic and periodontal considerations, managing patient expectations, and planning for long-term outcomes rather than short-term fixes.
Rather than offering a simple set of rules, the session works through real case scenarios to show how experienced clinicians reason through uncertainty and arrive at sound, ethical treatment plans. The aim is to help attendees feel more confident with complex cases, more comfortable discussing options with patients, and better equipped to know when to treat, when to refer, and when to let go.
