National Lottery Heritage Grants use money raised by National Lottery Players to help people explore, enjoy and protect the heritage they care about. Their Grants programme offers funding at two levels: 1) £10,000 - £250,000 and 2) £250,000 - £10 million. The training session is aimed at those wishing to apply at Level 1 – with grants from £10,000.
The scope of what they will fund is intentionally wide - heritage can be anything from the past that you value and want to pass on to future generations. If you have an idea for a project that will bring that heritage to life then this is the course for you!
Your heritage project can include: improving natural habitats and historical landscapes; collating oral history recordings of people’s stories, memories and songs; exploring the history of different cultures; telling the stories and histories of people, communities, places or events related to specific times and dates; community archaeology; improving museum, library and archive displays; acquiring new objects.
The course is designed for organisations who are interested in applying for funding for a project that connects people and communities to heritage in new and impactful ways.
At this course you will:
- Gain an understanding of the sorts of projects that are eligible for funding with reference to their four investment principles which guide their grant decision making
- Learn methods to develop and present your project taking into consideration HLF key priority areas
- Learn about evidencing need and developing project outcomes and impact
- Explore methods to develop your project budget
- Explore techniques for writing persuasive and compelling funding applications
This course is aimed at anyone who is interested in developing applications with a heritage focus. It has been designed by a staff member who has experience of submitting successful bids to the referenced funder and experience of devising and delivering an inclusive heritage project with a local charity.
For those new to project development and big writing we would recommend attending our course as a first step.
