Africatown Heritage House is hosting its October 2026 Heritage Lecture Series event, a collection of speeches designed to touch on topics related to the Black experience, on Thursday, October 15, 2026 at 5:30pm.
ABOUT THE LECTURE: For the October Heritage Lecture Series, Dr. Angelia Bendolph will present "From the Clotilda to Gee’s Bend: Intergenerational Memory and Descendant Discovery." Dr. Angelia Bendolph, a fifth‑generation descendant of Clotilda survivor Dinah Miller, shares a powerful journey of lineage, scholarship, and cultural recovery. Drawing on oral tradition, genealogical research, family memory, and community testimony, Dr. Bendolph reveals how descendant knowledge expands the historical record and our awareness of Clotilda's legacy beyond Africatown.
ABOUT DR. BENDOLPH: Dr. Angelia Bendolph, founder of Dinah’s Legacy™, is an independent scholar and public humanities practitioner whose work centers on African American heritage, memory, and legacy. As a descendant of Clotilda survivor, Dinah Miller, she is connected to both Africatown and Gee’s Bend and approaches her work as both a researcher and a steward of stories passed through generations. This approach is reflected in her work as curriculum developer for the NEH Landmarks Africatown program, Teach Africatown, and the Mobile County Commission Civil Rights history project. She is the Immediate Past President of the Mobile Branch of ASALH (Association for the Study of African American Life and History), where she served for four years leading initiatives that uplift Black history through community engagement and cultural preservation. She is also a lifetime member of the Clotilda Descendants Association. Dr. Bendolph’s work brings together education, storytelling, and public humanities to make history accessible, meaningful, and rooted in lived experience.
