About this Event
In and around Athens, a rich foodway still exists — but it's fading.
Long-time restaurants have turned off their stoves. The taste of simple food is disappearing. And beyond the restaurants, down single-lane roads that have protected them from industrialization, farms, mills, and stands still hold the old ways: draft horses, primitive implements, hand milling, seasonal harvest.
Heritage Food Trails connects these foodways through a gathering experience.
Participants travel to these remote places, learn traditional farming and harvesting methods, put their hands in the dirt, and gather food to bring back to TGH. There, they Set Table — the ritual of shared preparation — and cook over open fire using Heritage Hearth methods.
Storytelling weaves throughout: the hard work, why it still matters, why it must be preserved for tomorrow.
This is not a tour. This is not grocery shopping. This is pilgrimage — understanding the full system of foodways by participating in it.
You’ll take home first-hand knowledge of local food sources, heritage producers, and food sovereignty along a curated regional loop.
You bring: comfortable walking shoes and weather-appropriate clothing. We'll provide: food, transport, and route logistics.
