Tussen 27 september en 6 oktober 1944, is door het Engelse legeronderdeel Wiltshire zwaar gevochten rond de boerderij de Buitenplaats. Om diegenen te herdenken die hier vochten en die hier hun leven lieten voor onze vrijheid, wordt er ieder jaar een herdenking gehouden in oktober.Dit jaar is het 82 jaar geleden dat er in onze wijk zwaar gevochten is. Om deze reden organiseert de werkgroep Wiltshire ook dit jaar een herdenking op woensdag 7 oktober a.s. om 10.30 uur bij het monument aan de Marasingel 19. We verzamelen vanaf 10.15 uur bij het monument.
Wij zijn blij dat we deze herdenking dit jaar weer door kunnen laten gaan. Dat ook de groepen 6 van Daltonschool Confetti en andere scholen uit de wijk er weer bij zijn en een bijdrage leveren aan de herdenking! Daarnaast zijn er dit jaar 2 leerlingen van het Lorentz Lyceum bij die de Roll of Honour voorlezen.
We verzamelen buiten bij het monument en nemen na afloop daar ook weer afscheid van elkaar.

During the period September 27th and October 6th of 1944, the Wiltshire regiment of the British army fought a battle in Arnhem around a farm now called “de Buitenplaats” in the area called “De Laar”. To remember those who fought for our freedom and to honour those soldiers who lost their lives, the local residents hold a remembrance ceremony every October.
Since this year represents 82 years after this battle, we are holding a commemoration on the 7st of October at 10.30 a.m. We will meet each other at the monument from 10.15 a.m.
We are glad the remembrance can take place. We are happy that the kids from the groups 6 of Daltonschool Confetti and other schools from Schuytgraaf will join us and contribute to the remembrance. Also 2 students of Lorentz Lyceum will contribute and read the Roll of Honour.
We will meet at the monument.
