Scott Sean White & Helene CroninTwo of Texas’s finest storytellers share the Poor David’s stage for a night of songs built on honesty, heart, and hard-won wisdom.
Dallas songwriter Helene Cronin calls herself a “story-singer,” and audiences who’ve heard her know why. Born on Long Island and raised in Texas as the quiet one in a family of five kids, she grew into a writer with a sharp eye for the details. She won the 2018 Kerrville New Folk Contest with her blend of raw roots of Americana and Nashville polished craft. Her songs have been recorded by Cody Johnson, Bryan Martin (including the title track of Poets and Old Souls), and Heidi Newfield, and she hosts writer rounds at Nashville’s Bluebird Cafe. Her latest album, Maybe New Mexico, earned an A-minus from legendary critic Robert Christgau, following the acclaimed Old Ghosts & Lost Causes and Landmarks. Radney Foster, Lloyd Maines, and Terri Hendrix are among her fans.
Scott Sean White lives in a town called Poetry, Texas, and his songs live up to the name. Fellow Texan Jack Ingram has said that while some writers struggle to find their truth, Scott simply picks up his guitar and tells it. His self-produced debut album, Call It Even, featured harmonies from Jon Randall and Bonnie Bishop and landed on critics’ best-of lists, followed by Even Better on the Bad Days and his 2026 release, Days Are Long, which Americana Highways said makes him this year’s James Taylor. Hit songwriter Tom Douglas (“The House That Built Me”) counts himself a fan. Scott writes about family, faith, hope, and the outcasts and loners who rarely get a song of their own.
Together, Helene and Scott offer a rare evening of songwriting at its most generous: songs that make you laugh, make you cry, and send you home wanting to be a little better than when you walked in.
