Three Michigan troubadours bringing strong voices and heartfelt lyricism! Two sets from these gems of Michigan’s music scene. World-class folk songs, close harmonies, and plenty of charm. Bring a friend and enjoy some tender moments while you encounter unique collaborations and well crafted songs.
Hearth & Hymn - blood harmony story retelling through a feminist queer lens.
Jen Sygit - ethereal folk, sultry swing, gritty alt country, delicate melancholy.
HEARTH & HYMN: Hearth & Hymn is a close harmony, minimalist folk project produced by songwriters, song collectors and multi-instrumentalists Samantha Cooper and Elisabeth Pixley-Fink. Beloved artists in the Michigan music scene, their masterful harmonies and seamless vocal blend capture a room.
Raiding family songbooks and sharing old tunes, Hearth & Hymn reimagines old songs and pens future classics through a queer, feminist lens. The pair grew up immersed in “kitchen music” and have studied old-time music and vintage vocal traditions. They’ve released one self titled album, and a second album titled Lullaby Bangers.
JEN SYGIT: Sometimes traditional, sometimes contemporary, always imbued with a raw honesty, Lansing based Independent Music Award winning songwriter Jen Sygit wields a rare and powerful talent that seems equally comfortable performing ethereal folk tunes, crooning sultry swing numbers or soulfully belting gritty alt country ballads.
An accomplished multi-instrumentalist who isn’t afraid to test boundaries and cross genres, Jen’s eclectic musical style draws the listener in and holds them captivated. Her poignant lyrics tinged with a delicate melancholy, reveal an oft-overlooked beauty to life’s mundane struggles while offering the occasional glimpse into the plight of a modern day troubadour.
