Singers of Southern Tasmania are pleased to announce our return to St David’s Cathedral for a spring concert featuring Haydn’s powerful “Nelson Mass”. Originally titled a “Mass for troubled times” it became known as the Nelson Mass in recognition of Lord Nelson’s victories over Napoleon’s army. Haydn's joyful hymn of praise "Te Deum" completes the program.Regarded as one of Haydn's greatest masterpieces, the Nelson Mass combines a distinctive orchestration of strings, trumpets, timpani, and organ with an emotional journey that unfolds from foreboding and tension to joy and ultimate triumph.
Under the direction of Jamie Allen, the choir will perform with orchestra and four wonderful soloists: soprano Sharon Prero, alto Carolyn Seelen, tenor Han Zhang and bass Michael Stanelos.
We hope you will join us for this exciting performance!
